Question
Hi, I have a black bear syrian hamster. I bought her at about three monthes old and I've had her for about a year now. She has never lived with other hamsters since I've had her and I have had no other pets since then. In the past two monthes, she has devoleped a wet liquid on her tail that seems to be wet tail or diarahea(sp?). It has an odor but other than that, she has been doing fine: Drinking water, eating food, staying active, etc. I was wondering what it could be and if I should take her to my vet. I did change her food recently though but the mix looked similiar to the one she had eaten before. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
hey,
apoligies for taking so long to answer the question, i went away and the site wouldn't let me change my status to away.
Ok, it doesn't sound like wet  tail, if shes eating and drinking, and shes had it for so long, what i think it actually is, is that shes in heat. hamsters go into heat every 4 days and sometimes they give off a musty smell and have a little discharge.
Check her droppings, if they are soft it may be diahorria and take her to the vet, and if she stops eating/drinking take her to the vet too. good luck!
hope this helps
