Help !

Ive had my hamster a few days now and im finding it hard to come in contact with her, i read if you put your hand near her they will sniff you and get used to you and your smell, but she just keeps backing away everytime i do so and call her name x Help! lauren

I'm afraid it is a case of persevering.  I would suggest you don't try and pick her up for a day or two - instead talk to her a lot through the bars and feed her treats.  Then try again.  Rub some of her wood chippings into your hands before you try picking her up so that her scent is on you.  Gently scoop her up and let her walk over your clothes - some hamsters don't like walking on skin.  Don't keep her out for long - just a few minutes at a time.  If you keep repeating this, she should get used to you and the routine and calm down a bit.

Sorry there's no quick and easy solution for this - but it is worth persevering now as the longer you leave it the harder it will be.
