Question
My 8 month old male ferret have been breathing really loudly lately. I can hear him taking breaths from a few feet away. He still has a lot of energy and has no other signs of illness. Could there be something wrong?

Answer
Dear Klthom,

Well with the little bit of information you gave I can't really help you a lot.

My only guess is it might be the bedding. What do you use as bedding? Pine, Cedar, Carefresh, Sheets and blankets?

Don't use any wood for a bedding, that can cause fatal respiratory problems. Carefresh also shouldn't be used though it isn't as dangerous as wood.

For bedding use old sheets, baby blankets, fleece bedding, old cloths such as t-shirts, and sweatshirts. They and you will be much better off for it. (nothing is as cute as a ferret snuggling down in a sheet). They are much happier with those kind of things for bedding.

I would suggest taking him in for a checkup and having the vet listen to his chest. I'm not a vet so I am not qualified to give medical diagnoses.

Good luck, I hope it isn't serious and keep me updated!
