question about ferret boarding

Question
I recently moved to Albuquerque, NM with my pet ferret. My family and I are going on a week long trip the end of July and we don't know many people in town yet. Any ideas of where to find someone local who already has a ferret or who is curious about caring for a ferret that might watch him for a week?

Answer
Hi Mandy,

Wow, I'm jealous! Albuquerque is beautiful.  I was just there myself not long ago.  Definately check out White Sands National Monument if you have not already =)

It's wonderful that you are thinking ahead about the care of your little guy.  The best option is to call local veterinary clinics in the area.  Some offer boarding services, or know of people with animal experience/vet techs that might be available that can either drop by daily for a bit of play time or watch him at their home.  My guess is you will easily find someone who is willing to help out.  When I took a road-trip to NM/AZ, I had a vet student watch my two ferrets for $100 for 10 days and she did a wonderful job.  My advice is to look for someone who has a connection to a vet that is capable of treating ferrets in case anything goes wrong.

Another option is to place an ad in a local newspaper and see if there is any interest or ads for pet sitters.  Since it is still summer, you are more than likely to have quite a few to choose from.

Good luck and have a great trip!
