Leaping and biting

Question
Hello, My name is Erika. My new ferret, Precious, is about 9 months old. She has no history of illness besides maybe a cold. She eats Marshall's ferret food. Her poop is long and always brown or dark. She lives in my house with a 3 story cage that she sleeps in and stays in while I'm away. She gets to play at least 3 hours a day if not more.

Okay, so I've had her for about 2 weeks now. She had a nipping problem when I first brought her, but I would just scruff her and say no. That seemed to work and she hasn't really bit since. I believe it was just a little upsetting for her to move to a new home.

My question is,
Today and yesterday I let her out to play and she keeps leaping around and she bites me. Is that normal? Or is she really mad at me? I clean her bedding 2 times a week, change her potty once a day and give her fresh food and water every morning.
Was she just trying to play or was she mad at me?

Answer
Hello Erika and Precious,

If this :

is what Precious is doing, then that is a VERY good thing! That means she is playing with you and it is generally called the "weasel war dance". That means a ferret is *HAPPY* and having lots of fun. If she starts making a little... oh, I don't know if I can describe it. Have you ever heard her make a noise that sounds like its ... halfway between a bark and a chicken? Its a strange sound, but its called dooking and that means a ferret is really, really happy and really loving whatever she's doing!

So, don't worry! You're doing something right, most definitely. She isn't mad at you! Haha.

Congrats on the new addition and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,
Emilee Andrews
