Baby Ferret Attitude

Question
My 4 month old ferret seems to have a attitude issue and I have no idea how to stop it. We take him out to play with him and he is fine for the first half an hour but then he seems to be cranky. He growl, hisses, and shakes when you pick him up. Even certain toys he does this with. I scuff him and I hold him down like I have read everywhere but it doesn't seem to help. We have another ferret who id a year old but we never had an issue with him but we got him when he just turned one. So i was wondering why he does it and how do I stop it. Also could it be his age?

Answer
It certainly could be his age (you didn't mention if he was neutered), but it may just be how he plays with toys.  He may not mind being played with when he first comes out to play, but doesn't want to be handled after he "gets going".  Growling and hissing are really nice warnings for him to be giving you, so I wouldn't punish him in any way for that behavior, especially since he isn't biting!  Just pay attention to his behavior and only play with him when he is "in the mood" and let him play by himself the rest of the time.  As he gets older, he will spend a little more time interested in you.
