Question
HI, I HAVE A MALE PUG THAT IS JUST ABOUT 11 MONTHS OLD.  WE HAVE HAD HIM SINCE
HE WAS 12 WEEKS OLD AND WAS NOT HARD TO TRAIN AT ALL.  THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING
IS EVERYTIME WE TAKE HIM OUT TO THE BATHROOM HE CANNOT LIFT HIS LEG, HE KEEPS
PEEING ON HIS FRONT PAWS.  I CAN SEE HE IS GETTING FRUSTRATED WITH THIS BECAUSE
HE TRIES NOT TO PEE HE IS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO STAND ON SO HE DOESN'T PEE ON
HIS FRONT PAWS.  IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN DO TO HELP HIM OR JUST TAKE HIM TO THE
VET TO SEE IF THERE IS REALLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH HIS BACK LEGS."

Answer
Alana, his behavior is not out of the ordinary. There's nothing wrong with his back legs. Some males take longer than others to begin lifting their leg to pee, and some males never do it. Usually, male puppies that are around other male dogs pick up on it more quickly than those that are not around other male dogs. They learn by watching the older dogs. I have a male dog that lifts his leg most of the time, but occasionally he won't, and will end up peeing on his front legs, too. It's not a big deal, though because he licks it off before we go back inside.
