boxer problem

Question
I have had boxers all my life, usually two at a time, but i bought a bitch 1 1/2 years ago.  She constantly jumps at everyone, i tell them to ignore her when they come in, does not work, when she is out the back she comes in at about 100 miles per hour, tares around but constantly hyper,  I am 60 and love her to bits but just wandered what i can do to calm her down a bit and be a bit easier when people come in front door.

help would be greatly appreciated and i love the breed, the only time i did not have 2 at a time was when i took a pyrannean mountain dog rescue 5 years old and had her till she developed cancer in the mouth at 12 and my boxer at the time and her were always together, walked them together on one hand so you can imagine my dilema when even i try to walk darcy she even continually tries to bite her lead, with halti on, i take lead to her face so she has not much room to start it but still continually tries and makes walking her a chore.

thanks
myra

Answer
It sounds like what she really needs is training. All dogs (even the same breed) are different, and even though your other dogs may have done well with the same amount of training this one has, it sounds like she needs more work, more self-control and more exercise. If you teach her a solid sit, she can't be jumping on people and sitting at the same time. I would practice ON LEASH, having people come over to play greet the dog, and rehearse polite greetings. Of course first she has to know sit and stay, and the greetings have to be low key enough that she can still think. I would look for a good positive trainer to help you get her to that point. I'm a trainer, and I'm 59, and I get a number of students who are in their 70s. So it's never too late to start. Sandy Case BFA MEd CPDT www.positivelycanine.com
