Question
My boyfriend and I have a 6 month old Goldendoodle.  Overall, she is actually good.  She was easy to housebreak and already knows basic commands.  The problem is that our training techniques are not the same.  He will shout at her when she misbehaves and she does obey him as I'm assuming she fears him at the time.  I on the other hand have been more gentle with her and focusing on appraising good behavior.  I notice though if I do try to shout at her to stop that she completely ignores me, but she will immediately react if my boyfriend intervenes and yells at her.  She obviously does fear him, but not me.  This is causing problems for me to control her at times such as trying to get her leash on when I know she needs to go out.  The other issue I want to address is that she always pulls when she walks.  My boyfriend now thinks that a shock collar would work best for her for all training needs.  I disagree as I think it's cruel and not necessary for a dog that is quite gentle in nature.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

Answer
How you deal with misbehavior depends on what she is doing. The best way to deal with things like jumping and other attention seeking behavior is just to ignore her. Make like a tree until she behaves then dispense with the attention.

I have never had to use anything but a flat buckle collar to teach a dog to walk nicely on a leash. If she's pulling, she just doesn't go anywhere. It takes a long time but eventually the dog will learn that the minute that collar tightens around her neck is the minute the walk stops. If she wants to walk, she won't pull. Alternatively you could make her sit whenever she gets to the end of the leash.

Also, you must be firm and consistent. Yelling is unnecessary and I always think people look kind of silly yelling at their dogs. Besides, the more you yell at them, the more you'll HAVE to yell at them to get them to listen at all. Give a command, one time, then enforce it if it's not obeyed in two seconds- by enforce I don't mean punish, I mean make her do it. If you call her to come and she doesn't come, make her. Keep a long leash attached to her at all times until you know she will. If she's doing something bad, give her something else to do. For example, if she's digging in the garbage, call her to come and then give her a treat when she does. If she doesn't obey right away, have ahold of that leash and tug her over (gently) then give her a treat.
Clicker training is also a good idea to let her know when she's being good. Check out the Everything Dog Training and Tricks Book. I think you'll like it. Just search for it on Amazon.
