Question
I recently own a 2 month old beautiful Shi Tzu boy named Rocco. He is very play full and loving. I need your help in potty tanning him. I am currently using doggy disposable pads and teaching him to do it there in the morning (during the day my mom does it to) and before sleeping time. He does great sometimes but still other times jut does it anywere. At night he sleeps in my room and waits until the morning to do it in the pad and I congratulate him. But I just noticed today that he peed in one pad and later went to a different clean pad to poop. Do you think Rocco need two pads one for peeing one for pooping? Another thing, I bought him a cradle because I read that it is important for him for his tanning, what is the purpose of the cradle? Do I have to close him there until I get back home? I wouldn't like that, and that's another thing, I leave him home in the bathroom with all his toys and he cries when I leave, how can I train him that its going to be ok? And finally my last question...how many times can I bathe him as a puppy? What should be the procedure on cleaning his eyes and what brush to use? Thank you in advance for all your help, Raiza

Answer
Hello Raiza!

Dogs typically prefer clean areas over dirty areas, so your Rocco may like to have his potty pad changed to a clean one every time he uses it.  I would recommend trying it to see if it helps.  I believe when you say cradle, you are referring to a dog crate so here is a link to a good article on crate training.  http://www.aspcabehavior.org/articles/92/Weekend-Crate-Training-.aspx  I do recommend crate training for dogs, but you need to do what works for you. I believe this article may be helpful, too:  http://blog.gizmo2wizmo.com/2009/02/03/5-tips-to-remedy-separation-anxiety-in-do...

As far as bathing, here is another great article:  http://www.aspcabehavior.org/articles/44/Bathing-Your-Dog-.aspx  To clean his eyes, just use a damp washcloth and wipe his face, carefully wiping around his eyes and in his ears where you can easily reach.

Good luck!
