Loner Dog

I have a 3 y old male daschund.  He was a rescue dog I have had for about 8 months.  I am trying to socialize him with other dogs and people at our local dog park, because he gets very agressive and barks and crys at other dogs and cats if he is held back from them.  I noticed that at the dog park he likes to be left alone.  He does occasionaly chase another dog but seems to get bored.  I see him as being the loner kid who plays alone at the park.  Is this normal?

It is very normal in hounds, especially ones that have not been appropriately socialized.  As long as you are confident he isn't going to start trouble with other dogs, continue to socialize him and you may see some improvement.  Some dogs do just prefer to be alone-I had one for 10 years that had absolutely no interest in socializing at the dog park, and it was due to his nature as he was socialized since a pup.
