Puppy nipping

Question
We have just purchased an 8 week old mini foxie x JR, she is a very excitable puppy, and a bundle of energy (as we expected), however, she constantly nips and bites hands and feet. How do I combat this issue before she gets bigger and it becomes a real problem? She runs under your feet when you walk around the house, trying to nibble your toes. I'm worried she will end up getting kicked and hurt. This is a habit I would most like to fix?
Thank You
Lisa

Answer
First, it is normal for hate puppy to do this. For several reasons, teething, learning doggy behavior, physical and mental stimulation the puppy bites or chews about every object it can find to explore its world.

We train dogs not to nip or chew using lemon juice. The little plastic lemons from the store. We use a mustard squeeze bottle (the ketchup/mustard plastic bottles) Put a liberal amount on your hands, then hold a tiny treat for the dog. The after a few tries it finds that if it takes only the treat it has a good taste, if it grabs your fingers and the treat it has a bad taste thus people don't taste good. Likewise, shoes, furniture, power wires, anything that the dog should not chew. A few dogs like lemon juice, so substitutes include bitter apple, vinegar (apple cider or wine) Tabasco, cayenne pepper, chili pepper etc.

As for running under foot, obedience training fixes that and a whole host of other issues you have yet to face.
