Question
Hi, Sorry I didn't give enough info... 2 1/2 yr yellow lab male.  He urinated on my bed, he hasn't had any other behaviors, and he is submissive.  He is the only the pet in the house, and hasn't been to the vets since his physical in March.  No he is not neutered.  I am 6 months pregnant, so I know he senses that.  We have had him since he was 8 weeks old and he never had accidents after he was trained.  But we were surprised that he layed in his own urine after the fact.  We didn't think that dogs would lay where they had urinated.  Hopefully that gives enough information for you.  Thank you for your time. Nicole

Answer
Hi Nicole,

The difficulty of this forum for solving dog behaviors is that unless there is a glaringly obvious problem, it is extremely difficult to judge the problems source. Were you my client that I was personally visiting, your information would lead to more questions, which would lead to more information and so on until an answer was found.

With that said and the information I have, I would guess that there is possibly some connection between your un-neutered male, your pregnancy and this odd behavior.

I would suggest that he sleep in your bedroom, crated, at night. The crate should induce calmness in your dog and he can associate a calm relaxed state with the scent of your pregnancy. You should also prepare your dog for the baby's arrival by training the down command and the "go away" command which will come in very handy when you have your hands full. Be sure and let him smell diapers, etc. from your newborn before you even bring your baby home from the hospital. I would finally suggest that you keep your dog out of your bedroom unsupervised.

Good Luck!
Sandy
