Question
I have a nine month old Irish terrier that I love with all my heart but she is very spiteful.Frist of all she will steal food off the table she will jump on me and when I disciplined her (I put her in her crate and told her NO) when I let her out she jumped on my bed and peeed on my side. This is the second time she did this so my bedroom is off limits to her.My sister said I should buy a shock collar but I don't want to kill her spirit.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thank You for your help Ruth

Answer
Your dog needs obedience training. The dog is clearly leading/controlling you. Second, the crateis not a punishment center, it is supposed to be a safety center for the dog. The crate is where it should sleep, eat, find treats, toys and other goodies.  The opposite of reward is no reward, not punishment.

Put up a baby gate and keet the dog in an area you can keep clean, ie the kitchen or similar area. When you eat, put the dog elsewhere so it does nothave access.

COrrections (No!) must be within 3 seconds of an action to be effective, likewise rewards. After 3 seconds the dog has no idea why you are doing what you are doing and has no recolection of its behavior before that.

The dog is not spiteful, it is simply taking command in the absence of a human leader taking command.
