Older puppy regressing

Question
We are taking care of two small dogs that our daughter and son-in-law adopted several months ago. I walk both dogs two-three times each day and let them in the backyard frequently. One of them, a Chihuahua mix, rarely defecates when I walk him or when he is let out in the yard, while the other does at least once each time. The Chihuahua prefers to use our dining room floor. Our daughter told us when this began that he was not as reliable as his companion, but that such occurrences had been rare. Now they are at least once a day.

We have a large crate, big enough for three small dogs, and are reluctant to use it for that reason. Suggestions?

Answer
Hi Rob!

If you want to crate the dog, you will want a partition in your crate or just a smaller crate intended for a small dog.  Otherwise, the dog will probably just potty in the crate if he has plenty of extra room in there.

Here is a blog post that I think you will find helpful:

Good luck!
