Question
Hi, I'm 19 and my mum came home with a beautiful American Staffordshire last night and I love big dogs but we've only ever had small dogs, last dog being a Poodle x Bichon Frise (passed away last year).

My questions were is there any particular order of commands I should teach, like name > sit > down. How can i get him to not bite from an early age? (he doesn't really but I do have a 7 year old younger brother) I really would like to take training my pup/dog seriously and put a lot of time in.

This one im clueless about, in the middle of the night seeing as he is 8 weeks old how often should I take him out to relieve himself in the night? (i woke up at 2am to take him and then again at 6am) is that too much?

Last question is on feeding him, how often is just right? is dry food okay? I've got 1 canned puppy food of chicken and rice and and 2kg bag of dry food at the moment.. I just want a pleasant and healthy dog !

Thanks alot :)

Answer
Hi Jesse.  Congratulations on your new pup and wanting to do things right for the puppy.

Puppies will wake up at night when they have to potty, so unless he's crying to go out, let him sleep.  The will usually need to get up once during the night at this age and again first thing in the mroning.

Dry food is best.  Look for something with no by-products or corn products.  I'm not sure what brands your local stores carry, so read the label.

For training and other questions about puppies, I'm going to direct you to this website.  It's a wealth of good information training and other puppy raising questions:  http://www.dogstardaily.com/training/raising-puppy
