whelping box

you said something in an answer last month about something for mixing cement in that could be used to hold the puppies after they are whelped - I haven't seen such a thing before. Can you be more specific? Is it just a plastic shell shaped like a box?

Yes, that is exactly what it is.... a plastic box. Dimensions are something in the neighborhood of 2 ft. x 3 ft. and it works great for dogs that aren't too large. You should be able to find it at most any builder supply store like Home Depot, etc.
