What kind of Dog?

Question
My husband is 62 and wants a dog. I have cats. One cat that is 10 yrs old and very spoiled. I don't mind dogs, but they are like children and need things.  My husband doesn't work and wants the companionship when I am working.  I don't like "trip-over" dogs.  If I were to agree to one it would have to be medium to large dog.  The 2 biggest problems I have with it is we live in an apartment, and I tend to move us a lot. (once every year or so.)  Also my husband has had two strokes, he is usually physically ok to walk a dog, but can not run and play with one and I am too lazy for that.  He wants a Border Collie or Australian Sheep dog I think.  Is this even a good idea?  I think I am being reasonable to really think this out.  Dogs are part of the family as long as children (20 yrs).  I don't want to take on the responsibility if I am going to be left with it alone, and I don't have the heart to get a dog and then have to "get rid of it" just because of where I might be living.

Answer
Hi,
If you get a border collie or aussie, go to the Aussie border collie rescue and get an old one that has calmed down.  A young dog would be too much to handle.  I recommend that any dog you get, you should go to a rescue and get an older dog.  This solves two problems.  The dog will have less energy and also you won't have it that long if anything happens.  I would say get a middle aged dog.  Now this is different for different dogs so check on the life span of any dog you decide to get.
I think getting an older dog is a wonderful idea for him and the dog, and even for you.
