Question
HI, PEPSI IS NEARLY 12 AND SHE HAS STARTED TO HAVE CRUSTY HARD BITS ON HER LIPS.  HAVE YOU EVER COME ACROSS THIS?

Answer
Hi Elaine,

You didn't say if your dog's crusty lips is something that's been a problem during the winter, of if it seems to be year round.

You should remove the crust your dog's lips daily with a moist soft clean cloth and a mild soap.  Dry her lips the best you can with a clean lint free towel.  With your finger or a Q-Tip, rub a light coat of baby oil or Vaseline on her lips. You need wash your dog's lips daily, but you can apply the baby oil or Vaseline twice a day. In
about a week your dog's lips should start to look better.

You can also add Vitamin E or an Omega fatty acid  supplement to your dog's diet. These will help heal your dog from the inside out. These supplements need to be given daily, and you might not see their effects for a month or two.

If the condition persists, your dog should be examined by your vet. There's always the possibility that your dog might have lip fold dermatitis.

I hope I've been a help.
Best of luck,
Patti
