puppy interaction with 2 yr. old Bichon

Question
The bichon, neutered, tolerates being climbed on, ears pulled, mouthing and will play tug with toys but after awhile he gets out of control and chases the puppy, knocks him down. The puppy,4 months,( will be neutered at 5 months)rolls over on his back and then the bichon bites him on the neck, not letting go and puppy squeals.  We have been intercepting and getting the Bichon a toy to bite at this point, but the puppy then goes back for more!!  How do you know when to intercept and not to intercept? The Cava- Poo sounds like he is being hurt and the neck is so vulnerable.

Answer
Hello...sounds like the little one is Trying to domante the older resident dog bt going submissive...belly up when the older dog gets mad but once the fuss is over goes back and trys again...I have see my little terriers bite my labrador retreivers neck when she is on her back but its all in play...thou sometimes its a domance thing but she never gets hurt...just be careful and watch them until they settle this...if they ever do I have found my 15 pound jack russell terrier trying to domante my 80 pound labrador retreiver for over 2 years now lol. Spaying and neutering cut down on domance but doesnt eliminate it all my dogs are fixed and domance battle all the time. Check out my website: http://www.freewebs.com/dustycovens/index.htm

its free ,   music on the Home page Only turn it down up off via the left bottom corner the volume is the button farthest Right on the little box, it offers insight on owning multiple dogs I will be sure to add a page about domance/beahvier in the next few days so hold onto the link or if you loss it email again, Best of luck.

Oh sorry...my bad, Now For your question If the older dog is growling really hard or has its back hair standing off his shoulders and upper back or gums pulled back barring teeth grab one dog and remove it from the situation ASAP...This is what I call the "peeed off puppy pose" and a fight could easily insure.
