grapes/chocolate

Question
I have read in numerous places that these are bad for dogs.  My boxer ate a pound of dark swiss chocolate (including the wrapper paper/aluminum and all) and on another occasion last year several stockings worth of candy mostly chocolate and never even got an upset stomach.  This puzzles me.  One of my doberman's favorite foods was grapes until someone told me they were toxic, and you can't believe how healthy he is.  Since then I have talked to others (dachsund owner, pug owner, etc) and they all say there dogs love grapes and have never had health problems.  This puzzles me.  What are your thoughts.

I would not take chances with my beloved friends...I know you don't have any issues,
But, not to say that these items are not Toxic!
I know that they can be.
So, I cannot give you any additional information.Some dogs have a different tolerance than others as do people, but, again, I have not experienced having my dogs get into any of these items, so, I cannot tell you more.
