Westie Stomach Spasm

Question

Piper and Angus 6.5 mo
I have 2 Westie puppies (brother and sister) that are 6.5 months old - Angus (M) and Piper (F).  I had both puppies fixed before Piper had her first cycle back in early November and since then I've noticed that when she eats her Morning and Evening meal her abdomen cavity will spasm 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through her meal.  Prior to the surgery she would eat very fast but since the surgery she eats very slowly.  At first I thought that I was giving her too much to eat at one sitting but I haven't increased her consumption amount in 5-6 weeks and she is still have spasms.  Both puppies only eat Science Diet Nature's Best and throughout the day they will get a treat of apple pieces or carrots.  Any cookies or biscuits that they get have organic ingredients.  Does Piper have something else going on in stomach that needs further investigation or is this something that she will grow out of as she reaches adulthood?

Answer
What little doll babies they are !

First I ahve to say that I am not a vet and unable to diagnose any medical problems.

That said, I bet she's just getting the hiccups.  Pups tend to do that for some reason that I don't know.

It sounds like you're feeding them very well - In fact this is the first Science Diet I won't bash. I might not choose it because it contains soy, but that's a personal thing.  I don't feed corn, wheat, soy or by-products. I'm very happy to see Science Diet put together a good food.

Unless she seems sick in some other way, I wouldn't worry too much and just bring it up at her next well baby checkup.

Enjoy them - they're lovely !
