Questionmy dog is not even 2 years old yet and thursday 20,2008 my dog was put to sleep because she was really sick. they said she had parvo, she had had puppies around early february and she showed no signs or symptoms of parvo.how come the puppies didnt get it and she had it?
AnswerHello Karey: I am so sorry about your momma dog... If she had been given her shots yearly, she should have not contracted parvo. The immunizations help but they are not always 100%. Also, if your dog's immune system was weakened, she can get parvo very easy.
If she has had too many litters of pups, too close .... she can get Parvo.
The Pups were lucky. They did not catch it thru mom's milk. That's very odd that they did not get it. GREAT for them!
They are very very lucky little pups...
Make sure they get the shots they need, starting at 8 weeks old.
Sorry that your VET did not educate you on Parvo and the causes...
