Answer
Hi Karen,
Your dog has already become possessive of you...
He thinks that you are his property, and has become dominant over you. Not good.
Your husband, and yourself have to teach him and train him that you are the "pack leader" by taking back control.
The easiest way to try to explain this is to pretend that you are a dog, (I know it sounds nuts), but parent dogs don't use words to teach their pups.
Use your hand and a firm (not painful) squeeze or poke to the back of the dogs neck/shoulder area to break his aggressive state of mind. Using this touch on the back rump area also works.  Do this at the VERY INSTANT the dog starts to show aggression. You can also use a verbal or noise command, such as a "pssst" at the same time that you are doing the squeeze or poke.   What you are ultimately doing is changing the pattern of thinking in the dog and breaking his concentration and aggressive mode.  Be extremely consistent and do this technique constantly at the first sign of ANY dominance or aggression that he shows.  If done correctly and consistently, eventually all you will have to do is point at him using the PSST sound to get him back in line.  Yelling at a dog doesn't work, they just don't understand what you want. Consistency is the key, and don't back down or show ANY fear or uncertainty to the dog. YOU (and your husband) are the LEADERS, not him.  It's common for Jacks to try to take control of things, so teach him now and you will have a well behaved and respectful dog. You can use this technique in all aspects of training him (walking on a leash, etc.... don't let him pull you), he will try! It's just as important for you to FEEL in control and be in control. Dogs have an unbelievable knowing of who is in control and who is fearful, nervous, or timid. He will try to be the boss, it's crucial right now that you change that and be the BOSS.
This is the Cesar Milan method of training and (if you are in the U.S.) you can watch him in action on the National Geographic channel on Friday nights, check it out, it's an amazing technique and really works wonders.
Good luck!!
