Question
HI carol I come from Albury NSW Australia and love my little JR f/m named Bindi. she has recently given me a wonderful litter of exelent JR puppies with exelent markings and Im a very proud dad. however all pupies have gone to great homes except one and I have just noticed that Snowy (his aquied name) seemes to have a extra clore on both his back legs about mid way from his tows and his first joint or knee joint. the claw doesnt seem to have any skeletal bone in it, It seems to be similar to the due claw or some have called it mating claw on the front paw of a male. I am wondering if Snowy has received some Jeans from an ancestral link. I am interested to hear from you as to what you think has happened to little Snowy.

Answer
Hello Trevor,
It sounds like Snowy has double dew claws -
a pair on the front legs as well as a pair on the back legs.
This is not a typical Jack Russell Trait and are most often seen
in different "mountain" dogs like Great Pyranese etc...
(which helped the breed in climbing the mountains).
Maybe somewhere down her line she has some mountain dog genes!!
If and when you sell her, you just need to make the buyer aware of them but it is not necessarily a BAD thing.  They can be easily removed by a veterinarian or they can be left alone, it would be the buyers choice. The dew claws can sometimes be a nuisance by getting caught on things and getting injured, or hurting the dogs eye from scratching but they shouldn't be a major problem.
Who knows, someone might even think it's CUTE!!
Best of luck with Bindi and Snowy!
Take care.
