Scrumpy and one other dog

Question
She loves other dogs and is always very friendly and fairly submissive to dogs we meet on walks but our friend has just got a female spaniel (about 4 months) the pair of them start off wrestling but it gets aggressive and they both start growling and snarling.  Any ideas ??- it's only this one dog that she has been like this with out of the 10's that we know.  Is it because this is the first dog she has met that she could dominate? Or maybe because they are both girls.
The other owner is not that keen on JR and I think she believes it is scrumpy but I am sure it's a bit of both....If it is her, how can sort the issue out?
Regards

Answer
Natasha,
Forgive the lateness of my response as I've been sick with the flu for the last 7 days!
You and your friend should make sure to stop the aggressive play BEFORE it starts. It's OK that they play and have fun together, but the second either of you see it escalating, it's time to separate them, thus sending a message to BOTH dogs that that sort of "play" is unacceptable. Both being females may have something to do with them trying to out-dominate eachother, and I am SURE your jack knows that the other owner does not like her much. Dogs are extremely intuitive and she may be acting out on that fact too. If you both are on the same page and both correct the dogs before it gets out of hand, they will learn what is expected of them.
