night frenzy

While I do not have a German Shepherd (now) I found your site while googling for night frenzy behavior. I adopted a mixed breed puppy from a local rescue group; he's part Saluki and, best guess, maybe lab. He goes nuts at night. He is not crated at night (he's now 6 months old and has been allowed to sleep outside the crate for a couple of weeks now). He will be playing or resting and then, all of a sudden, something comes over him and he just tears around at high speed, low to the ground and just in a frenzy. Any ideas????

Sorry for the delay, I went away to shows without answering.  

If this is in the evening, before bedtime, it is fairly normal!   I call it "puppy burnouts".  Mine would race around bouncing off of the couch and just ripping around.   I don't know why just that lots of young dogs will do it.  Your pup is just feeling good.
