Chicken bone ingestion

Question
After eating dinner out we stopped at the video store and left a TO-Go box with a large piece of fried chicken and two coconut shrimp. Our Cocker Spaniel had a fiest! Is there any danger with the splinters in his stomach? Should we take him to the vet? What to watch for, etc. Is there anything we can give him to soften the bones or will his stomach acids do the trick?

Thanks.

Answer
That happens.  Don't panic, but watch her carefully.  Our friends' highly valuable breeding stock did the same thing.  She was OK.  Usually dogs survive these incidents with no problems.  It will help to give it some white bread, the sooner, the better.  The soft, sticky stuff to cover the sharp ends.  Perhaps hot dog or hamburger rolls if you don't have any white bread.

Don't like it being Friday.  Bloody, not red, but black and sticky, stools is a bad sign.  You may want to look for your vet's emergency number now.
