dry skin and ear infection

Question
My female cocker spaniel is about 8-9 yrs old(got her when she was about 2 years old) she has never had skin or ear problems until about 6 months ago. I have always fed her nutro natural choice dry food and table scraps. When she got the skin problem I switched to natural balance duck and potato and also took her to the vet. My vet did thyroid and several other blood tests and concluded that she had some type of skin condition... cannot remember what she called it and gave me some special shampoo and told me to bath her once a week and switched her from my oatmeal shampoo to a vet brand. Also I had her on advantage for fleas and she was switched to program because of the bathing. The skin problem has mostly cleared up but now her ears are terrible! They smell and every day have a yeasty looking whitish coating on them. I have been using Optical cleaner every day and drops from the vet for about 1 week and it is getting worse instead of better. It is back to the vet today. Do you have any suggestions for me please!

Answer
I'm betting your dog has seborrhea.  The ears are often affected.

And yes, I can help.

Go to EntirelyPets.com and order Zymox Cleaner - and both Zymox ear meds.  One has hydrocorisone and one doesn't.

Vet Dermatologists love this product and it's really quite miraculous and more effective than nearly anything else.

The bliss of this product is no vet visit required since it works on yeast, bacteria or fungus.

I will tell you that when you use the meds, do NOT clean out afterwards as you do with a cleaner.  You put the med in daily - squish around - let dog shake head and that's it.  I'd wipe off the ear flap though.  Mostly for 7 days - sometimes 14 days if things are really bad.  Do NOT clean ears during treatment.

So go to EntirelyPets.com and type "Zymox" in their search box and all the products will come up.

The med wthout hydrocortisone is mostly used - the one with is for when the ear is swollen or inflamed.

Trust me, this stuff WORKS !  I think you can also order it from other places like 1-800 PetMeds but sometimes they won't carry both meds.

I would love to talk to you about her diet...and how best to manage the seborrhea.  But let's get her ears comfortable asap.
