QuestionMy question arose when I was reading an answer to a gentlemen's question about his boxer being a runt. Someone replied that runts are usually killed by the dam. My boxer is 9 months old and when I bought her she was seperated from the rest of her litter. She was put in with Bull-Terrors and Chihuahuas and she has a scar by her rib cage. I was told she was a runt but that even runts can grow to be a pretty large dog. My question is, What is the average size and weight of a Female 9 month old Boxer?
AnswerHi Dean,
There really is no 'average' weight for a growing puppy. It all depends on her size and structure. Boxers spend about 12 months growing tall and 12-18 MORE months growing 'out' (gaining muscle mass).
A mature bitch should weigh between 55 and 60 lbs. Physical maturity is reached at approx. 3 years of age. So at 9 months and 40lbs. she seems to be on the right track. :)
Your concern, rather than an average weight, should be if she's in correct proportion for her bone structure. Your vet can give you this information. A growing dog that is too thin or too heavy risks damage to bones and joints.
If you'd like to send me a photo I can try to tell you if she's a good size. Nicole@boxerdogplanet.com
