3 yr. old male boxer with 8 wk old male boxer puppy play issues

Question
Hi Charlotte!
We have a 3 year old male neutered boxer that was extremely lonely.  He has always preferred playing on play dates with other males and completely ignored the females. A couple of days ago we decided to end the lonliness and  brought home a new 8 week old male boxer puppy that has an awesome temperment/disposition.  Up until today (we'd have him for 4 days now) they have played wonderfully together.  My older male, Oscar has been very gentle and caring almost somewhat "motherly" toward our new little one.  However today while I was allowing them to play the little one got a bit feisty and started growling and biting Oscar harder than the normal play bite.  I quickly put an end to that by immediately separating and putting them in  a time out in their own separate cages/crates.  They are supervised at all times that they are around each other until the little one gets much older.  I am worried that aggression
will become and issue if we don't curb it immediately.  Oscar was cryptorchid and was neutered at 6 mos. of age.  We are already planning on having the little one done when he reaches 6 mos. as well.  Our vet didn't seem to think the 2 males would be a problem together b/c Oscar was neutered and we planned on neutering the baby as well.  Do you have any suggestions on how to correct them when this behavior strikes.  They both have awesome personalities and temperment and I'd like to be able to keep it that way if at all possible.  Thanks!  Brooke

Answer
The first hting I would do is go out and buy a ton of dog toys. All sorts and types. You only really need to crate the young one, if he is the one starting it. The time out thing is always a good dicipline method.

Pups are like this, normally the older dog will correct them if the pup gets to rough.
