Question
My 2 yrs old dog, Dallas is having  #2 accidents in the house.
He has started this behavior in the last month.
He is very dosile for my husband but when he is in the house with our 3 daughters and I he can be quite troublesome.I cannot leave him out of my sight or he will chew, climb or wreck something.
He is crate trained and my husband and I had begun letting him sleep on our bed but have since returned him to his crate when not surpervised.
Is this the correct approach and what else would be useful.
He is a lovely sweet pup.He loves our daughters and has the most gentle nature.
Please please help !!!
tY in advance

Answer
Hi thanks for writing. Apparently Dallas thinks your husband is the Alpha so he won't misbehave in front of him. He needs to also know that YOU are an Alpha. Has Dallas gone to obedience school ever? I think it would be a great idea for YOU to take him and establsih leadership with him. He will also need to learn that the girls are above him in ranking as well. If you are not able to sign up for classes somewhere then contact a trainer to come to the house a few times and work with you. It will be money well spent for the future.

As far as the accidents is it possible he is geting fired up around the girls and just doesn't bother to go out or hold it? You didnt give me details on that part so I don't know if he is peeing or pooping. Pooping could be from excitement , peeing could be laso but could also be "marking", this is a dominance behavior and would also require the intervention of a trainer to be properly taken care of.

I cannot really say too much about the crate becaue I don't personally believe in them but as long as the crate is NEVER used for punishment and only as a safe quiet place for him to get away or be safe and non-destructive it is ok. DO not ever put him in there when you are mad or to punish him. This is the opposite of what a crate is to be used for and can create behavior issues when he is outside of the crate.

That's the best I can give you with the details you included. Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me again if needed.
