QuestionHi, i have a 5 month old basset hound and i understand that these dogs are stubborn but this dog will not use the bathroom outside! she has even gone in her cage 2 times so far! she also seems to like our trash can. is there any way to stop these behaviors?

First, get over the 'will not' attitude. :) The attitude we hold while we're training our dogs is a BIG factor. I know you're frustrated, but I can help you...just take a deep breath and keep repeating 'she can, she can' lol
What type of potty-training have you tried? Please be very specific...methods, times, etc.
Keeping her out of the trash is only a matter of correction when she looks at the can. Timing is key. When she looks at the can give her an 'eh-eh' and take her from the room. I'm guessing you're already doing something like this but are running out of patience with it. It can take quite a while with a determined dog.
If you're talking about when you leave the house, put the can up or outside.
