QuestionI recently adopted a 3 year old male basset hound. He has yet to be neutered. My previous dog (female, half Lab/pit bull) would go out 2-3 times a day). This dog goes out 10-15 times a day. He's had a full physical and is scheduled to be neutered in 2 weeks. Once neutered will his bladder require less trips to the outdoors?
AnswerHi Robin,
Assuming he's had a urinalysis and blood work with his physical and he's healthy, there's no reason that he should be going so often, testicles or no testicles.
This may seem a silly question but are you positive he actually has to go this much or has he trained you to let him out frequently so he can wander around and mark?
A normal, healthy dog, as you know from your previous female, should only have to physically 'go' after they've eaten, drank, woken up or got done playing/exercising.
