Question
What do people mean when they say that basset hounds only shed twice a year?  What times of the year do they shed?

Answer
Basset Hounds shed continuously throughout the year.  I don't know where you received this information.  Most shedding breeds will drop more hair, however, during the Spring in preparation for the warmer weather.  There are 'double-coated' breeds that will blow coat twice a year, the Basset not being one of them.
