Question
A stray cat has adopted our family.  He seems to be around 2 - not neutered.  We plan to take him to the vet soon, have him neutered & all shots.  He trusts us to come inside & I would love to set up a litter box for him.  What is the best way to help train a stray?

Answer
Karen,

Keep him in a smaller area at first. A cat will usually instinctively use a litterbox. But being a tomcat he may spray to mark his territory. He may also prefer to go outside to do his business as that is what he is used to so watch if he goes to the door and wants out.

He will 'train' you rather than the other way around!

Good luck with him. It's great that you are getting him neutered. He will probably make a nice pet. He's lucky to have 'found' you.
