Urination problem with older cat

I have a 9yr old male cat that has been fixed.  He was never any problem and used his litter box up until the last few weeks.  He's been urinating on our couch in the same spot, even after I've just about cleaned the pattern off the material, lol.  He's also meowing excessively.  I had a female that died last year with feline leukemia.  I had the male checked at that time and the vet said he was okay.  Could he have contracted the leukemia now?  He shows no other symptoms other than the ones I mentioned.

Sounds like your boy might have either bladder crystals or a bladder infection.  I would recommend taking him in to have some tests done to be sure.  If he does, the medication and thereby resolved health issue will resolve the behavioural issue.  From what you're describing, this is more than likely the problem.
