Kitten Behavior

Question
My kitten was spayed 3 days ago.  She is not as playful with us as before.  She seems so sad.  She eats a little from her food bowl but if I take the food and put it in my hand she would eat only from my hand.  She is not responding to me calling her.  She would just walk out on me and go sit quitely somewhere.  Before she was spayed she would go visit the neighbours next door as soon as it gets dark. She would come back home around 9 in the night.  She sleeps in our bed.  Please tell me what can I do to make her a happy cat again.

Answer
Fazila,

She may have been pregnant when she was spayed. Sometimes female cats sense the loss of their babies and get depressed.

Also she may be 'pouting' because she associates you as the reason for her pain and discomfort. If she is a sensitive cat she may think that she was a 'bad kitty' somehow and that's why you did that to her. Cats minds are funny. They have no reasoning ability and you don't know what they are thinking. Give her lots of love and reassurance...and kitty treats (food is a great bribe). She should get back to normal soon.

She just had a 'kitty hysterectomy' so she probably hurts still. If she is not acting better in 2-3 days (or sooner) then I would call the vet or spay clinic that performed the procedure and tell them how she is acting. It's rare, but possible, that she has an infection, or something is wrong as a result of the surgery.
