Using plants as litter box

Question
We have a cute kitten that lives in the apartment downstairs and sometimes comes to visit us, which we don't mind, however, we have a gorgeous potted jasmine plant outside on our balcony and the kitten seems to think it's her personal litter box.  Is there some kind of spray we can use or some herbal product to stop her habit?  Any other suggestions?  (We're trying to teach her not to dig in the inside plants by using a small water bottle and just watching her on the occasions that she comes to visit us.)

Answer
Hello Kristin!

I always think it's funny when a kitty does this...but it is frustrating (not to mention stinky!).  :o)

One thing I've always done with plants is to get some river rocks, and cover all the soil with them.  Kitties don't like stepping on either thing, and you shouldn't have anymore problems with her using it as a litterbox.

So, give it a shot, and let me know what you think!  If the kitten decides to be stubborn about things, or you have any problems or questions, feel free to write again!

Hugs!
