cat not cleaning herself properly

Question
My cat doesn't clean herself properly. It seems that she can't entirely reach her butt. Her legs are relatively short. She's not fat, but she's become a bit chubby. I noticed that she'd started to smell like pee. Long term she needs to lose weight, but for now I bought baby wipes to remedy the problem. It seems I've made it worse. I think I the scent of the baby wipes completely deterrs her from cleaning herself. Now she really smells! I can't bathe her, or bring her to a pet store for a bath, she would freak out. She is very shy and easily spooked.
What can I do?

Answer
When a cat cannot properly reach all of the body areas, it's either weight related or in the instance of long-haired cats and they can't through their coat. And, yes, baby wipes were probably the wrong way to go, at least the scented ones. If it's impossible to bathe her, I would suggest getting a waterless shampoo and start with that. If she is that overweight, I would also focus on that as well. If I can ask, what kind of food and how much do you feed in one day? People really think that cat's need more than what they actually do. If you are in the process of dieting, great. If not, I would start not by dropping the entire amount immediately, but every couple of days, decrease by a small amount and keep decreasing until you're at the desired amount. And by small amount, I literally mean a tiny handful at a time. I hope this helps.
