Question
Alright i really don't mind it but my girl hates when the cat jumps up on the table/counter anything really just wondering if there is any training things i can use to make him stop this....thanks

Answer
Hello, Mike.

Well, actually there are many things you can try to stop this.

Sometimes a sharp, loud, "no!" will do the trick, but if that doesn't work, here are some other ideas.

- Try putting lots of things no the counters and table when you guys are going to bed at night.  Make sure how you set it up makes it so that something unbreakalbe will fall to the floor when they try to jump up.  The action of making something fall will most likely do the trick in discouraging them from trying in the future.  You'd only have to do this for a couple weeks (or however long it takes for their interest to die), and when you see that they don't try anymore, and aren't interested, you can stop and they will have forgotten about it.

There are other things that I've heard about, like putting aluminum foil on the counters, putting some tape so that there's some sticky side up about where their paws land when they jump up...but I've never really tried them because it sounded like a hassle.  I've heard that both things work, though.  I've also heard that cats hate the smell of orange as well as the smell of vinegar.  Putting some out on a plate might discourage them from jumping up.  (Unless you've got a fruit-lovin' kitty like mine...lol!)

Bottom line, I would try my first suggestion of putting things on the counters and table (set up so they'll fall with a jump onto the surface), and if that doesn't work, let me know.

Oh, another thing I've heard about, but never tried: something called Ssscat cans.  You can check out the site at http://www.ssscat.com/ but I've never tried it because it sounded like it would make my particular kitties a little too neurotic.  The lady who told me about them was quite happy with them, though, so if the above things don't handle it, you can try that.  They're a bit on the expensive side, but apparently they work wonders.

Let me know how things progress, ok?

Hugs to you all!  :o)
