Question
I have a very unusual Bengal kitten. He is abnormally finicky and has several times gone on hunger strikes, having to be hospitalized on one occasion and force fed on other occasions for a week minimum. He is parasite and infection free (extensive lab and stool testing). He only wants to eat particular brands of canned cat food -all give him foul diarrhea leading to dehydration and thus eventual total loss of appetite. He is 3-1/2 months old but due to his problem looks like a 10 week old. I have found that he will eat cooked chicken if salted, but I know this is an inadequate diet. Do you know of a chicken-based homemade food recipe I could try on him that will address his nutritional needs (esp vitamins and calcium) without triggering diarrhea? He is very unusual and seems to require a particular texture and size/shape to his food, as well as a salty sauce of some kind. Any food with the wrong taste or texture is rejected in favor of starvation. I have tried moistened dry foods of various brands - all rejected; many brands of canned food are also rejected especially if pureed (having no chunks and sauce). Attempts to mix dry with his favorite canned are also rejected or picked through.

Thanks for any advice!

Answer
Lisa,

wow , this is way past my expertise.  I have never heard of this before.  I suggest you go online to some of the veterinary sites and see if they can help.  This is indeed, an unusual problem.   You may also want to contact some Bengal breeders to see if this is common in the breed.

Sorry, I know I have not been of much help to you.  Good luck.

God Bless,
Becky
