i've got a 6 month old cat. i've had him since he was tiny. every thing is perfect with him, hes well behaved, loving, litter trained, only hes started pooing on the kitchen floor. he mainly does it at night, so i leave the light on, nope. i make sure his trays clean, nope, i bleach the floor often, nope, i even tried covering the floor in tin foil, but he just moved it out the way!! do you have any reasons or suggestions!!!

Answer
Sarah,

Normally a change in litter box behavior is either physical or behavioral.  A quick trip to the vet with a stool sample may show whether or not your kitten has worms or an intestinal parasite.

If not, there are many things that can cause a change in the kitten's behavior.  Some change in the household (like a new child or a new pet or a new room mate).  A change in the litter you are using could affect behavior.  At 6 months, he is probably coming into puberty.  This can affect toilet habits.  I would have him neutered.

I would also consider cleaning the area with an enzyme based cleaner specifically for pet stains and pet odors (available at your neighborhood pet supermarket).

Finally, I would read the article referenced by the below link.  It is the best article I have read on house soiling problems in cats:

Good luck and best regards... Norm.
