My cat has developed a cough!

Question
My 13 year old female (spayed) cat has started coughing in the last few weeks.  The cough is non-productive, and intermittent. She is also sneezing without a runny nose.  She is not feverish, nor is she sluggish.  She has not lost any weight.  The cough seems to cause her discomfort, and she expels a lot of air with the cough. Any ideas what this may be due to?

Answer
Coughing can be due to many things.  It can be the result of heart failure, kennel cough (cats can get it too), even allergies.  Since she is having some sneezing too I would recommend taking her to the vet.  The vet will be able to listen to her heart and lungs to check for any abnormalities as well as run any blood work they feel necessary.  Hopefully its nothing serious.
