Question
Hi! My 3yr old manx cat has just had a kitten from her first ever litter at 3 o'clock this morning after starting the first stage of labour late yesterday afternoon! The kitten is quite big 5.5 inches long and both mother and kitten are doing well they are both eating and mother seems very contented with it all!
My question is she has only had this one kitten and we thought by her size when pregnant that there would be more. Is there any way we can tell if she is still carrying any and if not is a one kitten litter rare as we have never heard of one before. Whats the longest time between kitten births that you've heard of is there more fun to come ?? Thank you please answer soon we want to check she's ok.

Answer
Hi Katie, It is not all that unusual to have a one kitten litter. I have had them many times with my cats. The only way to know for sure if there are any more kittens in there is to get an xray done on her... or wait!
It is possible there would be a 12 hour gap between kittens but not more than that.
