How can I get my cat  to stop biting (I've tried the hot sauce & other sprays, only short term deterrence) and be more affectionate over all?

When does you cat bite?  Is it declawed?  How old is your cat?  How do you want your cat to be more affectionate.  I am afraid I need some more information about what you really want for your cat.

Cats tend not to respond well to negative reinforcement, so you will need to find ways of rewarding your cat for correct behaviors.
