Question
My Male cat is 9 months old, almost 10 months. We have started feeding him adult food because he was starting to gain a lot of weight on the kitten food. We feed him a quarter of wet food in the morning and a scoop of dry food in the evening.
I also have a 3 month old Female kitten who eats kitten food.
My Male cat constantly meows for food and he always tries to eat the dry kitten food we leave out. It's gotten so bad that we have to put the kitten food in the closet and close the door just enough that he can't get in, but she can.
Are we not feeding him enough? And is it OK to constantly leave dry food out for him?
I know, given the chance, he will eat all the dry kitten food before he even touches his own.
What can I do to stop him from eating kitten food for good?

Answer
Hi Chelsea,

Your male needs more food. Read the label on the dry food. It will tell you how much to feed him. It should be about a cup or two, (on average). Split that up into two feedings. Give him half in the morning and the other in the evening. And I would feed him more of the wet. Here is a good site that has lots of information that you need to read about feeding your cats.

You can take the female off the kitten food now. This will take care of him going after food. Read that link. It will answer a lot of questions for you. Good luck and take care.
