QuestionThree days ago I adopted Rufus, a 4 year old male beagle from the local shelter. On Friday night he had a mild seizure. My vet is going to run some tests on Monday. He wanders around a lot and has a hard time settling. Is this the newness of his environment or a sympton of the seizures do you think.
AnswerSeizures are common in beagles. After they do have a seizure, they can be disoriented for minutes or hours--this is cause the post-ictal phase. Some of his not-settling may be him adjusting to his new house as well. And yes your best bet is to have tests run--CBC, Chem screen with electrolytes, Lyme Disease Test, Thyroid Level and Stool sample.
Make sure to feed an all-natural diet that is free of dyes, preservatives, food colors and meat by-products. I would recommend adding B-complex vitamins to his diet as well.
