Heartworm meds

I just got my two new chihuahua's checked for heartworms in August and they were each given medication for the month of August, but so much was going on I did not get their meds for Sept....or Oct....  Will I need to have them rechecked for Heartworms or can I just get the medications and continue from October?  And, is there a risk in the winter time for heartworms????

that is for your vet to decide and what area of the country you live in.

it takes 6 months for a positive heartworm test to appear. So my suggestion is to get checked in 6 months, but CONTINUE the medication. :)

There is always risks for mosquitos once the temperature is above 60 degrees.
