Acetaminophen use with canines

Question
My 7 month Lab injured his front left leg running up stairs.  He has a minor limp and limits the amount of weight bearing on that leg while sitting.  He does not retract the leg or paw when I touch or massage the leg.  It appears he has strained/sprained or bruised an area of the leg.  I want to administer a pain reliever to make him more comfortable while the injury heals.  Is Acetaminophen acceptable for this use in canines?

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Craig!  It would be most beneficial to have your veterinarian physically examine the leg for fractures or breaks.  I can not give out medication advice, by law, without accessing the pet, but I can tell you that you can't give any kind of Tylenol, Advil, Aspirin...any over the counter pain reliever to a dog.  It is highly toxic and can cause cardiac arrest.  Your best bet would be to take him to your veterinarian.  Your veterinarian can prescribe Torbugesic, Torbitrol, or Buprinex, which are canine pain relievers and will work very well.
I wish I could be of more help!
